Prefpping plastic bumpr for primer12/29/2023 ![]() The typically 6" size, universal for autobody, is too big for bumpers. Also the five inch size is just right for bumpers. A palm sander either electric or air (I use Dynabrade, Hutchins and Air Vantage air powered sanders but there is no reason a nice 5" Milwaukee, Dewalt or Makita electric palm DA wouldn't work.) A two handed sander is just too difficult to handle on something with as many curves as a bumper. Should I buy one because that may be the best option?īuy sanding sponges or just sandpaper? Wet sand the whole time? What grits? Advice appreciated. Low end air DAs are cheap enough? Have a compressor that can keep up. ![]() Saw some goon using one for body sanding on the interwebs? Acceptable? What hook and loop sandpaper? I also have a random orbital electric sander I use for wood typically. (adjustable speed) Could I just use that thing for body sanding with a different backing disk? Not worried about longevity of tool. I have a harbor freight electric DA I've used for some paint correction/buffing. What would be an ideal sander for a job like this? Not opposed to having supplies around for another small infrequent body fix up. Anyways I'd like to start rounding up some supplies to get this thing prepped for repaint. The paint was applied quite thick has has obvious adhesion issues. I believe this particular bumper may be aftermarket and has been painted before, poorly. ![]() The rear bumper cover on my daily driver is an eyesore and I'd like to have it repainted.
